About the Colloquium

The 2019 Undergraduate Strategic Management Case Analysis Colloquium was held in Tokyo, JAPAN on Saturday, January 12, 2019. This one day event was conducted in English, and was aimed at undergraduate students with an interest in strategic management processes implemented in Japanese contexts. Students representing universities in Portugal, Finland, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Nigeria, Indonesia, Australia, and Japan prepared for and/or participated in the Colloquium.

Learning Objectives

The learning objectives for the Participants included developing the following skills: Strategic Thinking, Critical Thinking, Communication, Leadership, Team Work, and Ethical Reasoning.

Why Join the Colloquium?

The colloquium provides undergraduates with an exciting opportunity to present their analysis of strategic management case studies and to learn from one another as well as from distinguished guests. All case studies come from the digital repository at Harvard Business School Publishing and touch upon some aspect of Strategic Management in Japan between the years 1983 and 2011. By analyzing companies operating in a variety of industries (fast food, beverages, automobiles, luxury goods, and fast fashion) in the bubble and post-bubble eras, participants are able to develop meaningful insights on the evolution of strategy formulation and implementation in Japan. Uniquely, most case studies are analyzed by more than one group of students, enabling participants to observe how the same information can be interpreted in different ways by different people from different cultures.
